Growing up in Florida, water has always been a huge part of my life. Now that I am a mother, water has also been a large part in the lives of my kids.
As a kid, I was a competitive swimmer. Literally living in the water.. I ate, slept, and breathed swimming. Swimming has always been important to me, and teaching my kids to swim and be safe around the water is even more important.
With summer rapidly approaching, it is time to bust out the swim suits and head to the pool! But with fun in the sun, comes the potential for danger as well.
Swimming is great, but swimming with toddlers can be a bit more tricky! My son absolutely loves the water, and wants to be able to swim freely just like his big sister... But there are extra precautions we have to take to ensure his safety in and around the water.
Celebrating International Learn to Swim Day while Swimming With Toddlers
Every year, the third Saturday of may is International Learn to Swim Day. Started in 2012 but industry leader SwimWays, this began as a national campaign to spread awareness about water safety and learning to swim. As it has grown, it is now an international day, with new overseas locations added to the event this year.
This year, International Learn to Swim Day is on May 18th… And we will be celebrating at our family pool, helping my little one learn to swim in his adorable Paw Patrol Swim Trainer. He has recently moved up from the SwimWays infant float, to step two in the SwimWays swim step program.
Not only am I excited to get this little boy in the water this Summer, I’m excited that Paw Patrol will help celebrate during International Learn To Swim Day events around the world.
SwimWays is encouraging parents around the world to celebrate in their own way by providing valuable information about water safety and raising awareness of the importance of teaching kids to swim.
As for me and my family, we will be swimming with toddlers.. Sharing my love of the water with the next generation. With the help of the Paw Patrol Swim Ways Trailer ( available at Walmart), my son is going to be learning the ropes with his big sister… Growing his confidence in and around the water… And enjoying our favorite Summer pastime for years to come!
If you are planning to hop in the water with your little ones this summer… Stay tuned to learn all about my top tips for having a safe and fun Summer swimming with toddlers!

Learning to swim is just so important, especially if you live close to open water. Getting them used to the water at an early age is a good tip.
I completely agree! I grew up around water, and am making sure the kids are safe and confident around water.
So glad to see that there is a day devoted to helping people learn water safety with kids. The most important tip is to always be in the pool with toddlers.
It is really so great! Learning to swim and be safe around water is so important from a young age.
I love swimming! I am so glad that I learned at an early age, it caused me to also join several swimming teams. Glad you are teaching them young!
I love swimming as well! I was on swim team for 7 years and got my scuba licence when i was younger! What was your stroke? I was a butterfly sprinter and backstroke sprinter!
We were just talking about teaching my nephew to swim! We have a pool in the backyard so I’m excited to teach him!
That is so exciting! I have been wanting to put a pool in at our house so we don’t always have to go to my parent’s.
Aw, he looks so cute and he looks like he was having so much fun! Thank you for sharing!
I think it is imperative that all young children learn to swim. It is a big initiative here in Australia since there are so many different waterways here and they can often be a wee bit dangerous for weak swimmers.
I remember being so nervous when my daughter was around water (we had a pool) when she was little. We put her in swim lessons right away. Safe is always better than sorry.
Swimming is one of the important things one should learn. It’s a nice idea that they are training with all the precautions for kids.
I loved teaching my kids to swim. Toddlers have a real natural ability with swimming!
This is the perfect type of activity to get our heads into. Filled with fun for sure. The kids are going to love this.
I put my son in swimming lessons as a toddler …and it didn’t go so well. He’s 8 now and ready to try again!
My son loves to swim. I am planning to have a summer outing again soon!
So important to introduce kids to swimming early in life. I wish my mom had done that for me. Both my kids are avid swimmers now thanks to this. Great way to create awareness for this important day.
I am keen to teach my kids how to swim and they are very excited in this summer. As i know swimming pool can be a scary place for new mothers. So i will take your tips.
When I was swimming as a child I hated him, I felt uncomfortable and instead helped me to trust me, to get into swimming and to keep myself in shape!
It’s good to have a day dedicated for swimming.Swimming is a perfect activity for whole family to enjoy. It is good to prepare toddlers from their early ages to learn swimming.
This is so important!! I was terrified to get a swimming pool when my kids were younger. I would have been constantly worried. I would love to have done a swim class with my toddlers.
It can be really scary to swim with little ones! Learning early helps so much.
There is something amazing about being able to swim and I think it’s something every child should at least try to do!
I completely agree! It is so much fun and it is a lot safer for them to learn to swim early as well.
We JUST opened up our pool and I can’t wait to take my nephew swimming in it! This post is awesome!
That is so exciting!
I love this. I think it’s so important for tiny kids to learn to swim. My kids learned very young and now they are great swimmers. It helps give me peace of mind.
It really is so important to teach them how to swim as early as possible
I don’t have kids yet but I agree that it’s important for them to learn how to swim. I see adults that can’t and it’s a shame cause it’s so much easier to learn as a tot!
