Professional Help

Furniture, toys, books, kitchen utensils, clothes, the number of things that move with you can be staggering when looked at in the cold light of day, in all their glory. However, thankfully, there now exist companies that can cut down the amount of work needing to be done by an incredible amount. All you need to do is call, and with Reliant Moving Services, you can watch as your apartment gets emptied with an almost uncanny speed and professionalism, that feels almost like a ritual in its precision and purpose. You no longer fret about how in God’s name you’re going to move the television, the fridge, and all the oak cupboards. Let alone transport them. Just pack all the small things into boxes, and the rest will be taken care of; we can’t stress enough how much of a burden is gone once it isn’t piling up on your shoulders anymore.

Have a Plan

Of course, you still have to have everything organized, and this is perhaps the most important thing one must remember. Have a plan. Have everything organized. Label all the boxes and know where everything was packed into. Pack smart. One box for all the paperwork, bills, receipts, etc. Then another box for all the clothes, perhaps even sorted by names. Another for all the toys, kitchen utensils, and so on.

If you can’t keep track of all the steps in the move by yourself, perhaps consider making a checklist. You can make one on your phone or computer. Then check them off as you move down the list. Take an inventory of your belongings. Or at least the important, expensive things, so you don’t accidentally lose something valuable in all the chaos.

Packing itself can be a hassle. Especially if you have a lot of tricky items that don’t stack easily, or fit together without breaking or scratching. Consider something like plastic foil. Use it to wrap fragile items individually, and fit them carefully together like a puzzle. A little caution can go a long way in preventing the wear and tear that is naturally present in heavy boxes, and all the bumps of the road in the move.

Try to get rid of as many unnecessary and unwanted items as possible, as it not only makes the job easier for the movers but also for you during the packing and later, unpacking. Give away your old clothes that may not fit anymore. Throw away broken electronics, and figure out what you still want to keep.

Communication is Key

When it comes to the movers, it is imperative that communication is clear. Make sure you know what can and can’t go into the truck. Things such as flammable items can not! Then realize what should stay with you, for example, phones, important documents, computers, etc.

Make sure they know what boxes to treat with extra care. They should know what should get stacked on the top. As you certainly don’t want all your glassware crushed by a box filled to the brim with hardcover books.

Last Preparations

This is usually obvious, but get familiar with the new apartment or house before you move, and with the general area, so you don’t get lost on the way there, or spend 5 minutes fiddling around with the light switches once you’re inside your new domicile. Get to know all the alleys, and little side streets that snake around it, the grocers for your day-to-day shopping, etc.

Notify your landlord, if you have one, and make sure everything is clear with the lease, bills for electricity and gas, and all the other little things that get so easily overlooked in all the haste and stress.

Double-check everything just before you leave, for any toys left in the corner, or cables still plugged into the wall. Make sure the electricity and gas are off. Make sure you’ve canceled your internet provider. You’re ready for your new home and a new future.

Most people have moved at some point in their lives, and for many, it can be one of the most nerve-wracking experiences you can go through. But it really doesn’t have to be that way, and hopefully, this guide helped you relieve some of the tension and nerves before your big step into a new life.
