Which Room Should You Renovate First?

If your home needs several upgrades, you may be overwhelmed by choice. Which room would you do first? Perhaps you are moving into a new home where most rooms need to be upgraded. Still, most people don’t have the financial capacity to change everything all at once, so you’ve got to consider some of the following factors first.

How to Decide What Room to Renovate First

How to Decide What Room to Renovate First

Is Safety a Priority?

Your roofs may need fixing, or your basements may need waterproofing, but you should operate with a safety-first mentality. If there are aspects of the home that you need to fix and you leave it thinking you should prioritize aesthetics first, this could come back to bite you further down the line.

Ensuring that you keep your home safe by fixing these major structural issues or adding extra insulation to keep your home warm during the winter months can prioritize safety differently. Safety depends on what you believe is best for you and your loved ones.

What Are the Desired Outcomes?

If you are considering increasing the value of your property, you have got to go for either the kitchen or the bathroom. These are the two most expensive remodeling tasks, and therefore, they will give you more profit. However, if you are on a tighter budget, you should consider renovating your living room because it typically involves minor electrical work, furniture rearrangements, and minimal painting.

If your goals are to create a more inviting atmosphere, you may want to renovate your bedroom instead. Depending on your desired outcomes, you may want to undertake specific alterations without necessarily going over budget.

Where Do You Spend More Time?

If you and your loved ones spend most of the time in the living room, it is a no-brainer, and if you are planning on living in this home for years to come without resale value being top of your priority list, the living room is at the obvious answer.

However, if you are considering the other aspects of where you spend more time together, either as a family or as individuals, you may want to upgrade the kitchen or the bathroom. The kitchen can be a hive of activity, and your kids may want to start congregating there more if it is a more habitable space. Additionally, if you have guests, you may consider upgrading the kitchen.

How Many Inconveniences Can You Put Up With?

The root of the matter is how much inconvenience you can face in the long or short term. Home renovations can be taxing, not just financially but emotionally. So if you will have trouble giving up a room for an extended period, it may be worth avoiding this one for the time being.

When you are trying to improve your home, the reality is that you are bound by the builders, which means you have to undertake this decision-making process and give it the time and effort it deserves.
