Top Tips for Staying Safe on a Night Out

Going out for the night is an activity that many people enjoy doing to help them relax, and blow off some steam after a long hard week at work. Whether you enjoy visiting your local pub, club, or casino, there will be things to stay mindful of so that you can keep yourself safe. Here are a few examples of how you can ensure not only your safety but the safety of those you are out with on a night out.

Keep an eye on your drinks

It has been known for many years that one of the most common ways to get yourself into trouble on a night out is to not pay attention to your drink. It can take meer seconds for somebody with ill intent to slip something into your drink and spike it. So, whenever you have a drink, one of the best ways to keep yourself protected is to keep an eye on it at all times and be aware of your surroundings. For example, if you see someone that appears to keep watching you, or is moving too close to you and your drink, try to find a way to distance yourself from them. If you need to go to the bathroom, either take your drink with you or give it to a trusted friend to look after. Even when you are holding your drink it would be advisable to keep a hand over the top, especially if you are in a crowded, or unfamiliar place. If you start to feel different, or strange, then tell a friend or a member of the establishment’s staff immediately so that you can be in the presentence of somebody who will protect, and help you, should your drink have been spiked.

Share your location with a friend

In the past when people would go on a night out, there would usually be a specific destination in mind, and those who would be going out would simply advise their friends or family where they planned on going. However, although this is still an acceptable form of trying to stay safe, there are now many more places to visit and often plans change when out on the town. Something that you can do to help your family and friends know where you are is to share your location with them through a device. Apps such as Google Maps, and WhatsApp both have location-sharing options built into them, so it is now easier than ever to be able to share your location in real-time with your friends, and family, so long as you keep your phone, or tracking device on you. So, although it may not protect you in person, sharing your location is a great way to help you stay safer on a night out as people will know where you are if you do not make it home, or back to where you planned on staying the night.

Organize transport ahead of time

When you go out for the night, an important factor to consider is how you will get there and back safely. To ensure that you do it safely, and don’t attempt to drive under the influence, or end up wandering the streets alone, it is advisable to organize your transport ahead of time. If you fail to plan ahead and end up driving under the influence, then you could find yourself hiring an experienced DUI attorney to help you get out of some fairly serious legal trouble. If you don’t plan ahead, then you could also get to the end of your night out and find that all bookable transportation is fully booked, forcing you to either pay out for a local hotel, walk home, or even ring around your friends and family for a lift home. So, be sure to organize your transport to, and from your destinations in plenty of time before you head out for the night.

Don’t walk home alone at night

Sometimes you may find that walking home is your only option, but you should avoid doing it alone at all costs. Walking home alone, regardless of whether you are male or female, opens you up to various attacks, and victimizations. Attackers are a lot less likely to approach people who are traveling in pairs than those who are walking alone. If possible travel in a large group as this is the most safe option. This way the worst thing you will have to deal with in the morning will hopefully just be a hangover.

When you go out for the night there are many things to prepare for, and be aware of to ensure your safety. Make sure that you keep these top tips in mind the next time you are planning to go out for the night.
