Top Signs that your Job is Severely Impacting your Health

From a long commute to an overbearing boss, it’s safe to say that work-related stress is unavoidable. That being said, there are ways for you to make things a little easier on yourself so that you can be both healthier and happier. After all, you have to remember that you spend more time at work than you do in any other place.

You’re Working Overtime- All the Time

It’s very difficult to find a job in this day and age that allows you to leave on time, every single day. Many people will find themselves working late just so that they can get everything done. Two-thirds of employees work a full extra day on top of their contracted hours, and there are health risks to doing this. You may find that you are at a higher risk of heart disease or that you are simply more at risk of things like depression. If you work too long hours, then you will decrease your productivity and you may even have a much lower level of cognitive performance as well.

You Never Get Up

We all know that sitting down all the time is bad for you, but unfortunately, jobs sometimes make it unavoidable. Prolonged sitting has been linked time and time again to higher risks of heart disease, obesity, and even diabetes. You may also find that you experience depression and muscle problems too. According to studies, musculoskeletal disorders that are work-related cause 40% of days off. If you want to stop this from affecting you, then you need to make sure that you do what you can to get up and move around. If you work on your feet all day, then this can also cause you problems, so take the time to sit down.

Working with Hazardous Materials

If you work with hazardous materials, you have to make sure that you use the right safety gear. If you don’t then this will work against you and you may even find that you are not able to take care of yourself as much as you should be. If you know that you have been affected by hazardous materials in the past then you have to make sure that you hire a lawyer, especially if you have a health condition as a result. You can find a history of verdicts here if you want to learn more about that.

You have a Long Commute

This is a very unavoidable aspect for most people. It’s not always possible for you to live close to where you work, and this can result in a very long commute. If you travel for long periods of time every single day, then this can work against you. You may even find that it has an awful impact on your health as well. If you want to get around this, then try and car share from time to time. The benefit of doing this is that it will help you to limit the amount of time you spend behind the wheel, so when someone else is driving, you can read a book and unwind a little.
