Shower Care 101: How To Clean Your Shower After Every Use

Yes, you should be cleaning your shower after every use! It sounds like a lot of effort, but you can avoid spending hours over a weekend scrubbing away at stains that won’t go away. The secret to good home maintenance is to clean a little and often. Get into the habit of doing things after you’ve completed certain tasks.

In this specific post, we’re looking at shower care. Your shower can easily become the grubbiest part of the home without regular attention. When the last person has used the shower for the day, you need to perform these small cleaning tasks:

Wipe down all surfaces

Get a shower cleaning solution and spray it on all surfaces. This includes all sides of your shower cubicle (if you have one) including the tiles and glass. If your shower is built above a bath, be sure you’re spraying the bath too. Get the shower head with the spray as well – this helps prevent mineral deposits from forming and clogging up the nozzle holes.

After spraying the solution, simply wipe every surface. You’re cleaning away any lingering dirt or dust, so it doesn’t build up over time. One wipe is all that’s needed – as opposed to hundreds if you only clean your shower once a month.

Use a dry cloth to get rid of moisture

When the surfaces are clean, use a dry microfiber cloth to get rid of as much moisture as possible. Mold is the biggest problem in a shower. It forms when water sits on surfaces and doesn’t go away. It’s why you end up with horrible black marks on the shower sealant or between tiles.

There are DIY ways to remove mold in your shower, but it’s far easier to prevent it. Going over the surfaces with a dry cloth helps soak up the moisture. Keep your extraction fan turned on as well – and open any windows if you can. This gets rid of steam to prevent condensation.

Unclog the drain

You might read the first two tips and nod your head thinking “Okay, that’s common sense!” Plenty of you will already wipe down surfaces and try to dry your shower after using it. Truthfully, how many of you will unclog the drain after each use?

Be honest – it’s probably a very low percentage of you! We don’t think about doing this, but showers become clogged with hair all the time. It can get so bad that you’ll need a drain cleaning company to dig deep in there and unclog everything. You might want to consider this if you haven’t unclogged your drains in a long time. Then, get into the habit of unclogging the shower drain after every use. You can find many tools online to help you do this, preventing a build-up of hair and ensuring the water can drain freely.

Keep following these cleaning tips and your shower will remain in immaculate condition! It’ll shine and sparkle – and you won’t need to worry about extra-long cleaning sessions. Remember little and often is far easier to manage than massive cleaning jobs every few weeks.
