While I have been all about going on my healthy living journey, I am also focusing on saving money this year. I recently came across the frugal pantry purge challenge and I am hooked! The premise is that you use only the items you currently have in your refrigerator, pantry, and freezer for an entire month! Yup, no grocery trips for me this month! Now, I will probably have to go once in a while for necessities ( like milk for the kids) but other than that I will not be shopping. Instead I will be shopping my pantry! At the end of this challenge, I plan on doing a total pantry makeover as well, using a ton of Dollar Tree products for organization.
The Frugal Pantry Challenge
I got the idea to start the frugal pantry challenge from the blog Good Cheap Eats. As soon as I read her post I was in love with the idea of doing nothing but shop my pantry for 30 days. Somehow, I always end up with an overstock of nonperishable items that get pushed to the back and get forgotten with time. Doing this challenge is beneficial in multiple ways too. Not only will I be saving money, but I will be able to empty out my pantry giving me room to organize it how I want.
Why The Frugal Pantry Challenge
So, why have I decided to participate in this challenge? Well, that is a multi-part answer for sure! For one, I love saving money. Secondly, I need to clean and organize my pantry anyways. Third, I think it is a fun way to get creative with my family meals. Finally, this challenge is a great way to see what my family really needs to buy from the store, and what we can do without.
My Plan For The Next 30 Days
So for the next 30 days, I will be avoiding the grocery store. No more weekly Walmart grocery pickup for me for a while! I will be running out for dairy products, mainly milk and coffee creamer, but those are necessities in this house! As for fresh produce, I have some at the moment that should last this week. My deep freezer is filled with bags of frozen veggies though and I have quite a few canned, so I will probably try to use those up instead.
Luckily, we have a decent amount of meat in our deep freezer as well. Normally we go to Sam’s Club every few months and stock up. Even if I do run out though, I won’t be buying meat during this challenge. This makes it fun to try to make meatless meal options I think.
Though this frugal pantry challenge sounds like fun, it really does sound like a challenge. I know I am always running out to the store for this or that. Pinterest and I will probably be best friends in the coming month, since I will be trying to find new creative ways to use what I have!
I am really curious to see what meals we come up with, and how much money we end up saving! I would love for any of you to join me in this challenge! We can do it together, save money, and clean our what we don’t need! It sounds like a win win to me!
After 30 Days
Once the 30 day frugal pantry challenge is over, I am hoping to not only have saved money but to have a better understanding of what I need in my pantry, and what I can do without. I would love to be able to clear out the pantry, and refrigerator, and fill it up again with products we truly love! In the long run, this will save even more money since we won’t be making senseless purchases.
I am also excited to organize my kitchen as well. Slowly, I have been stocking up on Dollar Tree bins and other organizational items to really make the best use of my space.
So now that you know my plan, what do you think? Do you want to join the challenge with me?
