Too long have I been unhappy with my body. After two kids, I have to say that I am not in ideal shape. My eating habitats weren’t the best, and it has been starting to really take a toll. This is the time that I take matters into my own hands though. Determined to become a better, healthier me, I am starting my healthy living journey. Not just for me, but for my whole family.
My Healthy Living Journey
Alright ladies, I am about to get real with y’all for a bit. I had my son over a year ago, and I am still 13 LBS heavier than I was before I got pregnant with him. Truthfully, I am fully to blame for this. I did not eat well, and exercise was something that only happened on occasion. This year though, I have made the decision to get healthy and drop the weight. This won’t be a fast journey, but one that takes place slowly. I am sure I will stumble and fall, but I am determined to get up and keep going. Transitioning into a healthy lifestyle isn’t something that will happen overnight. It will take time, dedication, and lots of self-control. I know I can do this, I will do this. For myself, and for my kids.
Okay ladies, this is going to be embarrassing, but I am using it as a means to motivate myself, and others as well. I am starting this journey at 163 LBS. At only five foot two inches tall, that is quite a bit of extra weight for me to be carrying around. I feel the extra weight too. I feel it in my knees that were never great to begin with. This isn’t solely about appearance, but health as well. I am not my best me at this weight, and I need to make a change. So this is me, raw and real. Vulnerable and a little nervous to share this, but I want you to see my real before. Every bit of it so you may know that you aren’t alone if you are not loving your body right now.
My Food Plan
After scouring Pinterest and Google for ideas, I have decided on a plan for this healthy living journey that I think will work best for me. The thing is, this isn’t a “diet”. It is a lifestyle change. I am going into this with the mindset that this is a long term change and not a short term fix.
So first and foremost, we had to clean out the junk. Getting rid of it is bittersweet, but for the best. Now, I can’t say I will never eat any chips anymore, but it will be much less frequent and in a much smaller quantity.
Then we added in the good! It felt really nice going shopping for fresh produce in mind. We stocked up on vegetables, fruits, and healthy snacks. Once we returned home, I proceeded to start with my prepped out meals.
Meal prepping is something I am leaning on heavily for my plan. I prepped up breakfasts, lunches, and snacks to keep me on track during the weeks ahead. Dinners are not prepped, but I do have a meal plan in place for those. I am trying to focus on lean protein, fresh veggies and fruit, and low carbs.
I also have started upping my water intake. Honestly, I was pretty bad about this in the past. My goal is to drink half of my body weight in ounces of water every day. I have been doing this for about a week or so now, and honestly, I already feel much better.
I am also cutting out most sugar. Now, the one thing that is not totally going is my morning coffee. I did though, eliminate putting sugar in my coffee. I am still using creamer, but like I said.. slow and steady little changes.
My Workout Plan
I am a total novice at this point. It has been many years since I had a real workout routine, and I am diving in to this brand new! You may be surprised to know, I was a child athlete. I was a swimmer all through high school, it was my life at one point. Unfortunately, I ended up falling out of it when I got older and began working.
Now I am looking for beginners workouts on YouTube and Pinterest to get me into a routine. Lately I have been jumping rope a few times a day, and honestly, even that leaves me out of breath. Like I said, I am way out of shape. But you know what, that is okay! I won’t do the workouts perfectly. My form won’t be beautiful, and I will get tired fast. At least I am doing it though! Over time, I will get stronger. My endurance will increase and I will see results.
My husband also informed me that he has all of the PX90 videos, so I may start trying those out as well!
What I Am Not Doing
Now that I have covered what I am doing on my healthy living journey, I think I should tell you what I am not doing. While I am going to be eating healthily, I will not be completely depriving myself of all of life’s pleasures. Like I said, this is a lifestyle change, not a diet! For example, if I want some ice cream, I may just have some ice cream. Now, I will be health minded when I choose my scoop. Only one scoop, maybe a healthier brand, instead of eating a whole pint of Ben & Jerry’s. I have always felt like super restrictive diets do not work because we end up wanting some sweets or junk so badly, that we end up binge eating them after some time.
I also am not going to kill myself with workouts. Yes, I am going to push myself, but not to the point of hurting myself. I plan to work out three times a week, and work up to more intense workouts eventually. This will help prepare my body and prevent injuries.
I also will not obsess over the scale! Did you know I don’t even have a scale? I got my starting weight from the scale at Publix! Obsessing over the scale is something that I feel like will be detrimental. This isn’t about simply losing weight, it is about being healthy and seeing changes. I am more excited to see a change in the fir of my clothes than numbers on a scale.
Will You Join Me?
Now that you have seen my before body and heard my plan, I want to know if you will join me! Having friends to keep you accountable really helps with lifestyle changes! I would love for you to follow along as I post updates, and maybe even share your healthy living journey with me! WE can inspire and encourage each other as we take this journey together!
